Bamboo rafting to Thilor Lay waterfall - Trek, camping and homestay (29 February - 04 March 2008)
Thipogyi village to Mae Klong river walking trail
Next day morning, after breakfast, we said good bye to the host families and
off we went to continue our journey. We were to walk along the mountain trail to mae Klong river where
we would build bamboo rafts to float down to a place to camp.
In a misty farm in the morning
We passed by a paddy farm where there was a small hut without the owner.
The farm is surrounded by the hills shrouded in mist in that morning.
In the hut were tools used for preparing and cooking food, farming, along with some
baskets, clothes, blankets and some fire wood.
Arrive Mae Klong river
Between Thipogyi village and Mae Klong river we walked pass mountains, sand hills, bamboos,
and then we trekked along Thipogyi stream until we reached Mae Klong river at about 10:30 a.m.
We still had to walk along the river for some time to reach a spot where we could get good bamboo
and from where onward down the river we would not meet dangerous rapids.
Bamboo forest
Bamboo are everywhere. Bamboo is one of the main resources that make
survival of mountain people possible. These people use bamboo to
build and produce so many things: houses, huts, storage, furniture, ladders, bridges, fences,
utensils, tools, baskets, rafts, and the list goes on. Without bamboo things would be very very difficult.
Cutting trees to make components of a house takes long time as power tools are not yet available
in these villages.
