Thailand Photos: Trek in Phu Toei national park, Khao Thawanda mountain, Ban Taphoen Khi Karen village - Suphanburi province (21 - 23 Oct 2006)
From Ban Taphoen Khi Karen village it is about 30 to 40 minutes hike to the peak if you are carrying things to camp at the peak.
On the way up we saw flowers of different colours. Bamboo - the plants that make lives of hilltribe people much easier
were everywhere. The place is on the border of three provinces: Suphanburi, Uthai Thani and Kanchanaburi where
hilltribe people have arrived hundreds of years ago.
Colourful flowering plants and their green leaves in the natural setting tell us the healthy forest situation
after hundreds of years of habitation by limited population of tribal people. Karen people ways of living have been
helpful to maintaining the forest and wildlife as if no human being were living there for very long time.
An old shelter built by Buddhist monks for meditation purpose. We did not know whether it was still being used for meditation.
It became a place to do cooking and sleeping for campers. Water tanks collecting rain water were also there.
At the highest peak was an un-finished Zedi. The white small stupa also had a place to keep
the offering by the people such as food, insence sticks, candles, etc. We pitched our tent
between the Zedi and offering place.
Sunset view from Khao Tawanda peak at 5:45 p.m. The sun was setting to rest on the hills of Kanchanaburi, Uthai
Thani, and Tak (Umphang) provinces. It was cool and windy. We were afraid of rain so we put up a plastic sheet
over the tent in case it rained heavily. It did not.
