Plants and flowers seen near the peak, above 1300 meters. Small and large plants and trees are thickly grown
covering the peak of relatively flat area - the size of a basketball field. I was not able to make any good shoot of
surrounding. It was just not possible for my simple camera. I left the road at 1:45 p.m. and arrived at the peak at about
3:20 p.m. A lot of time was spent looking for the way, cutting thorn trees and consulting the GPS receiver
borrowed from the park's office.
Left: The water pond on the lesser peak to the north of Khon Ron peak. At the time I went there was little water in
the small stream between the peak and the lesser peak. Right: flowers of the mountain.
At the peak I was wandering for more than 20 minutes with both GPS receiver and magnetic compass
not working properly. They gave me figures and directions which changed every seconds.
Finally I decided to follow an animal track under the trees I thought was leading to the north-east and to
Khao Laem grassland. I intended to find a stream to camp the night on the way.
The trail looked not very steep in the begining, but I had to use the knife to cut the tree branches with thorns.
Where there were no thorns I simply pushed through. There were more flowers on the mountain side.
Right: at a place I paused to look around for direction and trail - all around are trees and I did not know
which way would lead me to the place I wanted to go. Through the trees I could not find Khao Laem or any other
land mark I remembered.
