This was the 74 years old porter carrying a load of over 40 kg to the 1360 meters Phukradung plateau.
We also met with women porters on the trail. Being December holidays season there were many people going
up and down. Ring tones of cell phones were heard here and there.
The climb to Phukradung from the base station was a moderate level hiking. The 5.4 km trail to the edge of 1360 meters plateau consisted of 800 meters steep beginning and 1000 meters steep ending. From the edge it was 3.5 km walk on the flat dirt road to the camp site and headquarters. There were restaurants and rest places on the trail. |

Sun rise view from Nok An cliff on Phukradung. The cliff was 1100 meters from the camp site, on the eastern edge
of the plateau. There were a number of people waiting for good sunrise views. A park offical was selling
hot coffee and tea.
I had to wake up at 05:30 am and walked to this place not to miss the sunrise. It was cold. |

Another sun rise picture from Nok An cliff. The sun was already clearly seen above the horizon. Below the sun and the cliff it was still misty and cold. I bought a cup of coffee to warm myself. |
| Well, now you can see many people waiting to see the sun rise. I took this picture just when I was leaving the place. The sun was already well above the horizon. I was behind the crowd. It was time to walk back to the camp for breakfast. | ![]() |

Sun set scene from Mak Dook cliff on the southern edge of the plateau. Actually the best sunset views could be captured from Lomsak cliff which was about 9.5 km from the camp - at the western edge. I just could not have time to go there after spending many hours walking to see the streams and falls in the forest. Most waterfalls were found to be dry. |
