An excavator clearing the land slide on the road Luang Prabang to Udomxai
On the way from Luang Prabang to Udomxai we had to stop and wait at a couple of land slides. Excavators were called to clear the
mud, soil and rocks. This year August was a special experience - a combination of land slide and flood.
The public van left Luang Prabang's northern bus terminal at about noon, arriving Udomxai at 4 p.m.
There were at least one van or bus in the morning, and at least one more in the afternoon and or evening.

Along the road are villages of various hilltribes; Lao, Thai Lu, Hmong, Kamu, Akha, and so on. All tribal villages are populated
with simple and rustic houses made of wood, bamboo and some little parts of modern construction materials such as corrugated roof plates, brick and
cement, cement floor, sawn or machine cut timber.
Another mud slide on the road Luang Prabang to Udomxai being cleared up by an excavator
At about 3:30 p.m. we arrived at another mud slide where we had to wait sometimes before the excavator came.
While waiting for the machine local villagers came and manually moved the mud and earth to clear the way.

There is a monastery housing some monks, and novices who were studying Buddhist books at the time for an exam.
A quiet place within the town area in cool and windy rainy evening. Compared to Luang Prabang Udomxai was quiet and laid back.
Only few tourists were seen walking and cycling on the road.
